AGM - 2016/2017

The 6th AGM of CoMSAA began with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome from Dr. Sahan Guruge. Minutes of the 5th AGM were presented and confirmed after corrections. 

Dr. Dilshani Dissanayake delivered the annual report for 2015/2016, highlighting the growth in membership to 636 and various student support initiatives, including scholarships, awards, and donations such as stethoscopes and funds for academic and sports activities. Infrastructure developments included furnishing of student areas and repairs to the common room. Two newsletters were published, and a new website was launched with online facilities. 

The Annual Academic Sessions and Reunion held in September 2016 at Citrus Hotel Waskaduwa saw record participation and raised Rs. 500,000 for a new research support programme. Treasurer Prof. Nadeera Karunaweera presented the financial report, showing healthy growth in assets and detailing income and expenditure across scholarships, events, and operations. Suggestions were made regarding appointing an external auditor, adjusting the fiscal year, and refining award disbursements. 

Prof. Athula Kaluarachchi, the outgoing President, thanked the committee and introduced the new President, Dr. Sarath Gamini De Silva, who outlined plans to expand membership, initiate an annual CoMSAA lecture, and launch a UK branch. The new Executive Committee for 2016/2017 was announced. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the new secretary, Dr. Chamila Dalpatadu, and concluded with the Faculty Song.
