AGM - 2019/2020
The 9th Annual General Meeting of CoMSAA commenced with the National Anthem and a welcome by Dr. Iyanthi Abeyewickreme. The minutes of the 8th AGM were confirmed, and no matters arose.
Dr. Gayani Ranaweera presented the annual report for 2018/2019, followed by the audited financial report by Dr. Sahan Guruge. In her address, the outgoing President highlighted the increase in CoMSAA scholarships and the initiation of the Women’s Hostel project, while acknowledging challenges in boosting membership. She thanked the committee and donors for their support. Dr. Abeyewickreme then inducted Prof. Rezvi Sheriff as the new President.
The 2019/2020 Executive Committee was elected uncontested, with several members co-opted. In his address, Prof. Sheriff pledged to continue the Women’s Hostel project, launch a membership drive, and support activities for the Faculty’s 150th anniversary. Two resolutions were discussed—one to expand membership to non-alumni teaching staff (not adopted), and another to allow formation of overseas chapters (adopted). The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks and the singing of the faculty song.
